Echomatica spark wonder in uncertainty with breezy new s ingle “Something”

Echomatica’s latest single, “Something,” is one that speaks directly, and the breath between the words belongs to the latter. As the second glimpse into their upcoming debut album, the Tamaki Makaurau-based quartet proves they’re carving out space in the indie/alternative rock scene,  and also shaping it with a cinematic, soul-stirring edge.

“Something” feels like sunlight refracted through a prism: crystalline guitars shimmer alongside hazy synth textures, creating a soundscape that feels both intimate and expansive. The track radiates a breezy warmth, yet beneath its glowing exterior lies a pulse of uncertainty, echoing the tension between yearning and hesitation. It’s this delicate duality that makes Echomatica’s artistry so magnetic.

Vocalist Charlie Maclean delivers a performance that feels less sung and more confessed, guiding the listener into a space where fragility and discovery coexist. His voice floats gently over lush instrumentation before being carried upward by sweeping acoustic bursts, a sonic lift that mirrors the song’s very heart: reaching for meaning in moments of silence, searching for connection in hesitation.

Following the success of their debut single “Love Isn’t Always”, which earned hundreds of playlist features, Echomatica has returned with a sound that is at once nostalgic and forward-looking. By blending alt-rock grit with lush indietronica textures, the four-piece Maclean on vocals, AJ on guitar and programming, Matt Chong on guitar, and Scott Samson on bass, capture the fleeting essence of discovery and transform it into something lasting. With “Something”, Echomatica reminds us that sometimes the most powerful moments are found in the spaces between. It’s a song that lingers.
