Greg Weeks returns after 17 years with a haunting gem “If The Sun Dies”

After nearly two decades of silence, Greg Weeks returns with a significant statement in “If The Sun Dies.” Familiar for his work with Espers and Language of Stone, Weeks comes back with a piece of music that is less about the momentous and more about essence music distilled to its emotional purity.

From the very first notes, “If The Sun Dies” leans into an entrancing, archaic progression that feels like it has always existed, and the moment was waiting for Weeks to experience it. With sculptural layering and carving-back techniques used for construction, the title also has patience and timelessness. What is left is, defines and sort of contradicts that experience: a hauntingly sparse soundscape yet impossibly full, desire against distraction, craving against reality, just a paradox enjoying itself.

Weeks writes from the marrow. The way the arrangement breathes expansive one second and intimate the next, creates a feeling of personal confession and shared acknowledgment. “If The Sun Dies” is a reminder that music can carry us across shadows and silence that express truths we don't always speak or articulate
