We first notice the complementary relationship of lyrical nonsense with lyric power. Lyrics about losing a dog read comical at the surface, but under the playful guise exists an ache that is full of love, panic, and a sense of searching for something that is meaningful to you. The humorous story becomes an immense source of energy to build upon in the area of rock and blues-driven style.

The second half of "Lost My Beagle Today" is really where the magic unfolds. A guitar solo inspired by Zappa takes the audience by surprise and explodes into view in the improvised chaos.
