Ceylon Sailor unveils new track “The Tiny Wave”

Ceylon Sailor, Brooklyn's own 1990s indie-rock revivalists, make a splash with a bold new one. Their new EP, "The Tiny Wave," is a six-song journey, with one foot firmly planted in their ramshackle indie beginnings, and then it sets sail for less familiar waters.

Ceylon Sailor has sharpened their sound but kept the gleeful chaos that made them cult star. Choruses drenched in sunshine lock into pummeling drums, balmy harmonies, and enough honks of country rock and yacht rock to set listeners back on their heels. It's a deft mix of 1970s power-pop warmth of a band comfortable to take risks.

I live in fear of prog, admits KM Sigel, the band's main songwriter. We experimented with some different writing methods and we were more mindful of melody. We had to grind to find that sweet spot where the songs are not too easy but just a little more interesting.

Ceylon Sailor invites listeners to ride a musical current that is both soothing and exhilarating. Every song has its past, and its future, to say, with harmonies that are both effortless and painstaking. There's a sense of wayward order here, a band that understands when to push, when to steer clear, and when to just let the music wash over you.
