Heather Ward returns with new track “Into the Music”

Heather Ward’s new song “Into the Music” Is blessed with a warm, expressive tone and deep jazz roots. The Canadian-born, Seattle-based singer opts for intimacy on this track, allowing emotion and memory to be her guides rather than overwhelming them.

“Into the Music” comes as part of Ward’s new record, Gilded & Silver, an album full of material that feels contemplative, personal, and lived-in. The song, at its heart, has particular gravitas, written as a tribute to two crucial figures in her life, her Canadian jazz mentor Hugh Fraser and her uncle Joe Edmonds, both of whom were taken from her during the pandemic. That awe-inspiring feeling comes through immediately. Ward doesn’t dramatize loss, she dignifies it with grace.

“Into the Music” is especially interesting due to its emotional honesty. Ward is not wowing anyone here, she’s remembering, saying thanks, and allowing the music to say what words will fail. It’s a song about love and mentorship, about legacy, the kind of track that makes you wonder why jazz remains an enduring vessel for stories.

In an age of ceaseless noise, Heather Ward offers stillness, warmth, and honesty. Frost’s “Into the Music” doesn’t just pay homage to the formative figures, the mostly male mentors, that shaped her, it also makes a compelling case for slowing down, which has made us fall in love with music.”
