JNO x P O’Mal unveil new track "That Was Yesterday"

JNO x P O’Mal select restraint, and in that selection, they’re saying everything. Their new single, “That Was Yesterday,” is an intimate Alt-R&B duet, supported only by soft piano and harmonies stacked on one another. No drums. No embellishments. No distractions. Just two voices suspended in exposure, reminiscing about love that once seemed boundless, and the hushed ache it leaves behind.

From the first note, we’re whisked away to a darkened room with memories that remain hanging in the air. The piano has a soft weight, making every gasp and each quaver feel considered. The bare-bones approach lends the song a raw, almost choral intensity, harmonies rise and fall like shared confessions between two people who know how this story ends yet still feel the sting.

JNO and P O’Mal don’t play at each other, they encounter each other. Their voices are braided together in a way that feels so human, passing reflections of regret and tenderness back and forth along the lines, not to mention the haunting simplicity of what if. So much emotion is amplified in the absence of percussion, and silence itself is a theme that allows its own breath to become part of the composition.

These fans of atmospheric, heartfelt Alt-R&B will be drawn to the song's understated power. There is familiar emotional depth similar to Joji at his most helpless, but JNO x P O’Mal carve out their corner space through pure vocal chemistry and rawness.“That Was Yesterday” is two souls in conversation, standing amid the wreckage of love. And sometimes that’s all you need.
