Pollyanna Cowgirl Dives Into Grit, Longing, and Jazz-Tinged Vulnerability on “Covet”

Midlands-based artist Pollyanna Cowgirl continues to blur the line between raw emotion and refined artistry with her latest single, “Covet.” From the first note, the track pulls you into a smoky, late-night world where desire, longing, and romantic ambivalence quietly collide.

The song "Covet" is heavily influenced by Tom Waits' The Heart of Saturday Night, which is a sad and beautiful song. The strings and horn sections are heavy and slow. The saxophone and trumpet give the song a worn-out, soulful feel, and the choice to tune the piano down half a step makes the listener feel uneasy, which reflects the song's emotional tension.

Pollyanna Cowgirl sings with a lot of emotion and control. Her melodies gently float, allowing the poetic lyrics to emerge naturally. There is a frank honesty here that doesn't try to clear up the confusion of human desire right away. Instead, it explores the tension between wanting and resisting.

"Covet" is a slow burn with a lot of atmosphere and emotional depth that rewards those who pay attention and listen closely. With this release, Pollyanna Cowgirl shows once more that her talent is in making the ugly look lovely and the pretty look painfully real.
