Darren Flynn confronts the cost of conflict through “Pinebox”

Darren Flynn’s “Pinebox” is a powerful, deeply affecting meditation on war and the expendability of ordinary soldiers. The song was inspired by traditional Irish music and literature and deals with the fact that conscripts are often just statistics, sent home in little more than a cheap coffin and quickly forgotten. The arrangement is pushed forward by a fierce acoustic guitar, while organ, banjo, percussion, and unsettling sound effects gradually build the atmosphere.
