Kin Hana turns a piano-led reflection into an apocalyptic climax on “Shōmetsu / Kodō”

Kin Hana’s “Shōmetsu / Kodō” takes eight minutes to develop, moving from a meditative piano-and-voice passage to a transcendent, apocalyptic instrumental climax. Things get darker when doom-metal underpinnings are revealed to great effect against the intimate beginning of the piece. That stark transition makes the song a standout on the album's otherwise earthy track list. Its companion idea employs the wolf as a metaphor for fearlessness, inviting a confrontation with the instinct to turn away from hard emotions. “Shōmetsu / Kodō” gradually builds to a dark, expansive release.
