Lauren Lucas Charges Forward on “Chasing Lightning”

Lauren Lucas charges ahead on “Chasing Lightning,” a blues-rock battle-cry that crackles with purpose and primal energy. Co-written with Tomas Altamirano and recorded right in the heart of Nashville, “Burn The Ships” crackles with determination, ambition and a refusal to sit around waiting for permission, a manifestation of seizing your own opportunities.

Lucas embodies the fiery attitude of southern soul and blues-rock icons as she slinks through ZZ Ward's dangerous el awareness while holding up Courtney Love's stylistic mirror  but with larger-than-life confidence and a weathered, who-can-fuck-with-me attitude. Her vocals are honed to a razor-sharp edge, rooted in grit but elastic and soaring over the kinetic instrumentation. A rhythm pulsing like a heart, driving you to move and act with it.

“Chasing Lightning” is more like a state of being than a track. Lucas has a gift for conveying the breezy elation that comes with grasping at something just outside your reach, for both the kinds of stories he explores and his grounded style. It’s a tribute to drive, hustle and the buzzing excitement of carving your own way. The result is a song that’s pure adrenaline, one that leaves you at least as energized and inspired, if not ready to run out into the street and do battle with Eobard Thawne under an electric sky.
