Will Newman soars on bittersweet indie-pop anthem "High"

Will Newman traverses that fragile space with a shimmery indie-pop sound that is both intimate and expansive. On his new single, “High,”  there’s a certain silence that hangs over you when love does not evaporates, the kind even louder than the last fight. Befriended by BBC Introducing through his unabashedly emotive songwriting, Newman is staking out a name for himself as one of the genre’s most earnest storytellers. “High” leans into all the distractions we enlist while trying to outrun heartache, substances, music, rebound relationships, adrenaline-fueled thrills of all kinds, anything that will quiet the ache of what was. But instead of glorifying the escape, Newman carefully unpacks it, allowing listeners to sit with the reality behind the impulse.

“High” shimmers with luxuriant textures and atmospheric warmth, reminiscent of the introspective vibes of Valley and LANY but ultimately very much its own. The production shines, without ever calling attention to itself at the expense of the emotional heart. His vocals convey a raw exposure that makes every lyric feel lived-in, like pages ripped right out of a diary at 2 a.m.

Ideal for late-night spins, lonely train rides, or the quiet moments when memories come creeping back in, “High” is a sensation. It’s the sound of moving on, even when you’re not entirely sure how to let go. With this release, Will Newman shows once again that he understands the complexities of the human heart, and isn’t afraid to probe them.
