"The Ferryman" by Ebba & The Flat Tire Band drops the listener into uncertainty, with imagery hinting at something strange coming from beyond familiar shores. The words describe a distant light over a river, the wash of waves, and a presence drawing nearer. That simple scene creates a fascinating sense of anticipation, making the listeners wonder who or what is making the journey. The ferryman image also marks the boundary between departure and arrival, perhaps hinting at deeper associations with transition, loss, or the unknown.
